Background:
Aldi plans to invest more than £43 million in Scotland over the next two years, opening new stores in Bishopbriggs and Dumbarton in 2026 and upgrading several existing locations to meet rising customer demand.
The move follows a strong year for Aldi in Scotland. Earlier this year, the retailer became the country’s second-largest supermarket by volume, according to Worldpanel data, after recording around 60 million customer visits across its Scottish stores. The achievement highlights Aldi’s rising popularity with shoppers looking for good-quality products at affordable prices.
Along with opening new stores, Aldi will upgrade existing locations in Greenock, Perth, Linlithgow, Paisley and Stirling.
NFU Scotland has also named Aldi the leading supermarket for local sourcing, with 41% of its products coming from Scotland. This supports Scottish suppliers with more than £300 million in sales.
Beyond retail, Aldi has continued to support Scottish communities. During 2025, the company contributed over £50,000 to amateur sports clubs through its Scottish Sports Fund and donated £10,000 to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland as part of its tenth anniversary Supermarket Sweep initiative.
Sandy Mitchell, Regional Managing Director for Aldi Scotland, said the latest investment reflects the company’s confidence in the Scottish market and its ongoing commitment to affordable food, local suppliers and community support across the country.
