Background:
The Institute of Directors (IoD) Isle of Man celebrated International Women’s Day on 5 March 2026 with a special evening featuring retired NASA astronaut, engineer, and artist Nicole Stott. Stott, who co-founded the Space for Art Foundation, talked about her experiences at the sold-out event at The Claremont Hotel.
The event, sponsored by Appleby, Crowe, and Zurich, raised funds for Love Tech, a charity that supports girls and young women in STEM. Sponsors of the event engaged with a Love Tech educational activity to further support the initiative.
Claire Milne, Partner at Appleby and Co-Founder of Love Tech, said: “Appleby is delighted to support this year’s International Women’s Day Celebratory Dinner. It is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the achievements of women across our community and continue important conversations about opportunity and support. We’re especially looking forward to the discussion led by Nicole Stott, whose perspective will bring something truly special to the evening. She is a wonderful role model for the young people of our Island.”
Phaedra Bird, Managing Director of Crowe Isle of Man LLC, added: “Crowe Isle of Man is proud to support the IoD International Women’s Day Celebratory Dinner for a second year. The event brings our community together to champion opportunity, inclusion, and progress. Supporting initiatives that elevate women across the Island aligns with our values.”
Robert Hartnett, CEO of Zurich International Life, said: “Progress happens when communities come together for meaningful causes. We are proud to sponsor the event, which promotes inclusion, supports innovation, and helps build a fairer future.”
Love Tech, a charity registered on the Isle of Man, runs workshops, events, and mentorship programs to encourage girls and young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM). Local business leaders and technologists run the charity to help young women learn and succeed in STEM.
The IoD Isle of Man event showed how business, schools, and the community can work together to support women, celebrate their achievements, and inspire the next generation.
