The Mahindra Thar 5-door is one of the most eagerly awaited SUVs set to launch in 2024. Recent sightings have unveiled key design elements, including a closer look at the interior.
In the latest set of spy shots, several intriguing design aspects have been revealed.
Key Design Highlights of the Mahindra Thar 5-Door
One of the most notable design features of the Thar 5-door is its door handles. Unlike traditional placements, the rear door handles are positioned on the C-pillars, similar to the design seen on the Maruti Swift.
The front grille has also been updated, featuring an H-style pattern with a split treatment. Additionally, the front windshield appears to have provisions for rain-sensing wipers.
The rear design remains largely unchanged, though the production model may include a roof-mounted spoiler and a rear wiper tucked underneath.
Enhanced Features
The current Mahindra Thar lacks some basic amenities, such as automatic climate control. However, the Thar 5-door is expected to come equipped with a host of modern features, aligning with other Mahindra SUVs. Anticipated features include:
– Automatic climate control
– Automatic headlamps
– Rain-sensing wipers
– Wireless charging pad
– Rear AC vents
– Connected car technology
Moreover, spy photos suggest the inclusion of a new 10.25-inch touchscreen system and a steering wheel design similar to that of the Mahindra XUV700.
Engine Specifications
To handle the additional weight, the Thar 5-door will require a more powerful engine. It will continue with the existing 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, potentially tuned to match the power figures of the Scorpio-N. The petrol engine is expected to produce 200bhp and 370Nm of torque, while the diesel engine might deliver 172bhp and 370Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic transmission options should be available, with 4×2 and 4×4 configurations.
Launch & Pricing
The Mahindra Thar 5-door’s design has progressively evolved, appearing nearly production-ready. The SUV is likely to be unveiled in August 2024 and is expected to reach showrooms before the festive season. Pricing is anticipated to start from Rs 18 lakh and could go up to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
