Google has opened pre-orders for its new Googlebook laptops, with prices starting at $899, as the company expands its Gemini artificial intelligence technology into dedicated computer hardware. The new devices combine Android technologies with desktop computing features derived from ChromeOS.
The first Googlebook models are being developed with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Google says the laptops will begin reaching customers in the United States on October 4, followed by several other markets on October 5.
Googlebook Brings Gemini Into Laptop Computing
Google is positioning Googlebook as a new category of premium laptops designed around Gemini. The devices include AI-focused features such as Magic Cursor, which allows users to select content on screen and interact with Gemini, and Rambler, an AI-powered dictation tool designed to turn unstructured speech into readable text.
Googlebook also supports customizable widgets generated through natural-language instructions. Other Gemini capabilities, including Gemini Live and Gemini Spark, are integrated into the broader software experience.
The approach gives Google a way to place Gemini directly into everyday laptop workflows rather than relying primarily on browser-based or separately installed AI applications.
Premium Hardware Starts at $899
The Googlebook lineup starts at $899 and includes premium materials such as aluminum, magnesium alloy and carbon fiber. Depending on the model, displays can reach up to 2.8K OLED resolution, while hardware options include Intel and Qualcomm processors paired with dedicated neural processing units.
Google says the laptops can provide up to 14 hours of battery life. The devices also feature backlit keyboards and haptic glass trackpads, while selected models offer biometric authentication.
The lineup is aimed at users looking for more capable hardware than traditional budget-oriented Chromebooks.
Android Integration Is a Central Feature
A major part of Google’s Googlebook strategy is tighter integration between laptops and Android smartphones. The company says users will be able to move between devices more seamlessly, including accessing phone files and continuing supported activities across devices.
The laptops also support Android applications alongside web-based software. Google is presenting this combination as a way to bring mobile and desktop computing closer together while retaining the multitasking and browser capabilities associated with ChromeOS.
Googlebook Includes Long-Term Software Support
Google says each Googlebook will receive regular software updates for up to 10 years. Purchasers will also receive 12 months of Google AI Pro, including 5TB of cloud storage and access to advanced Gemini tools.
The package also includes three months of services such as YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop, according to Google.
Google Targets a Broader Laptop Market
Googlebook represents a broader shift from the company’s traditional Chromebook strategy toward premium hardware and AI-focused computing. Google has previously said millions of Chromebooks are used in schools, making the existing ecosystem an important potential base for its next-generation laptop platform.
With Googlebook, the company is combining its Android ecosystem, desktop computing platform and Gemini AI capabilities into a single hardware category. The devices will initially compete in the premium laptop segment, with broader availability expected as the platform develops.
